Drink-driver caught twice in six days is sentenced

A 42-year-old man who was caught drink-driving twice in a week has been handed an eight-week suspended prison sentence.
The man from Northampton was first arrested on 9 December when officers from Northamptonshire Police spotted a Vauxhall Corsa swerving on the A45 near Earls Barton in Northamptonshire.
After failing a roadside breath test, he was taken into custody, where he provided a reading over four times the legal limit.
Despite being charged and bailed, he was arrested again on 15 December after a 999 call reported a Mercedes hitting the kerb and swerving on Main Road in Duston.
'Selfish, dangerous, and irresponsible'
Officers found the same man drunk in the driver's seat outside his home, where he provided another over-the-limit reading.
At Northampton Magistrates' Court, the man pleaded guilty to both offences and was sentenced on 13 February to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months.
He was also disqualified from driving for 48 months, ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £154 victim surcharge, and told to complete alcohol and mental health rehabilitation.
PC Scott Kimberley from Northamptonshire Police said: "To continue to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol showed real contempt for the authorities. It was selfish, dangerous, and irresponsible, putting innocent road users at risk."
