Five injured in multi-vehicle motorway crash
Five people have been taken to hospital following a crash involving several vehicles on a motorway in County Durham.
A stretch of the A1(M) between junctions 61 for Bowburn and 60 for Chilton was closed as a result of the crash earlier.
Neither the ambulance service or National Highways have so far confirmed precisely what happened or how many vehicles were involved.
A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said it sent four response vehicles to the scene at about 09:00 GMT.
National Highways said Durham Constabulary and the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service were also working at the scene alongside their own staff.
The casualties were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Removal of the vehicles was under way.
