Cat stuck up 33ft tree for three days rescued
A curious cat is getting lots of fuss and attention after he was rescued from being stuck at the top of a 33ft (10m) tree for three days.
Casper, an eight-month-old kitten, decided to go exploring from his Bedford home, and chose to test out a neighbour's large pine tree.
Tauseef Nawaz, his owner, said the family noticed he had gone walk-about at about 15:00 GMT on Monday, and after following his meows discovered he had gone for a high climb.
Despite valiant efforts from firefighters and one tree surgeon, who were both unable to reach the adventurer, another tree surgeon arrived on Thursday morning, who Casper clung onto as he was brought down to safety.
Samuel Dudley, director of Eden Tree Specialists, said: "This wasn't your typical call for tree surgeons, but as animal lovers, we were more than happy to help.
"It's always rewarding to use our skills in unexpected ways."
Mr Naswaz said Casper has always liked exploring and aged two months went up a small tree in the garden.
However, when the cat was spotted in the neighbour's tree, he knew "it was impossible to get to him".
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue first tried to get to him, but as its ladder was not long enough they contacted a tree surgeon for help.
One arrived, but he was also unable to reach Casper, so the family asked for help on Facebook.
It led to them contacting Eden Tree Specialists, with Alistair Sheen turned up on Thursday morning.
Mr Naswaz said: "We are relieved to say the least, it was very stressful for my mum, Arshad, as she is really attached to him.
"We were so worried we couldn't get to him, I was determined I would do whatever it takes to get to him as it's priceless having him here.
"Eden are our hero's, they said they would not charge us, we're grateful at this touch of kindness."
He also thanked the local community, his neighbours and everyone on Facebook who offered to help.
"Everyone was amazing, we're eternally grateful, the help took us back."
He said Casper is now sleeping and eating well but might just need a few more days to get over his traumatic experience.
