Guernsey Airport will open early to support those travelling to the Island Games.

About 400 passengers are expected to pass through the terminal on Friday morning as Guernsey's team travels to the games in the Orkney Islands.

Guernsey Ports said it anticipated about 150 more travellers than normal and would open check-in 15 minutes early at 05:15 BST to ease congestion.

Steve Langlois, head of passenger operations and aviation security at Guernsey Ports, said the airport was asking all passengers on early morning flights to "allow extra time for their journey through the airport".

'Particularly busy period'

Mr Langlois said: "We're pleased to be supporting our Island Games team as they head off to represent Guernsey.

"By opening the terminal earlier, we aim to reduce pressure on passengers and staff during a particularly busy period."

Passengers flying with Aurigny who have hold luggage are encouraged to use the airline's twilight check-in service on Thursday between 15:00 and 20:00 BST to help keep passenger flows moving as smoothly as possible on Friday morning.

Travellers have also been reminded to check-in online in advance, ensure all liquids in hand luggage are under 100ml and placed in a clear plastic bag, and to avoid packing any restricted items.
