Police arrested the man after an incident in Johnstone on Sunday

A 38-year-old man has been charged in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Renfrewshire.

Police Scotland said the suspect was arrested following an incident in Johnstone on Sunday.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Det Insp David Hardie said: "We know this incident has caused concern in the local community and I would like to thank members of the public for their support during our inquiries."
