Police have appealed for witnesses after a car struck and knocked over a historic clock in Bridge of Allan.

The orange Mini Cooper hit a barrier while leaving a car park on the town's Henderson Street before colliding with two parked cars and finally striking the Paterson Memorial Clock on Union Street.

The accident happened at 16:20 on Friday. The 78-year-old driver of the car was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, where she was treated and has since been discharged.

She will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged road traffic offences.

PC Maxwell Polley of Police Scotland said he was keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who had not yet spoken to officers.

He added: "I'd also like to view any dashcam footage from Union Street and Henderson Street captured between 16:20 and 16:30."

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the force.

A post on the Bridge of Allan community council website said: "The Paterson Clock has long been a cherished landmark in our village, and we know how much it means to the community.

"We will work with Stirling Council to understand the possibility of repair of such an important landmark."

The Paterson Memorial Clock has stood in the town since 1898. It commemorates a local doctor, Alexander Wilkie Paterson.
