The study facilities at the Guille-Allès Library in St Peter Port are undergoing a "major transformation".

A library spokesperson said a refurbishment of the Hayward Room had been carried out with the aim of making it brighter and more welcoming for students, remote workers and lifelong learners.

The upgrade include new carpet, improved lighting and a new ceiling on the lower level.

Chris Jordan, the library's head of operations, said: "We're thrilled to unveil this upgrade to our study facilities, and we're deeply grateful to the Social Investment Fund and the John Ramplin Trust for making it possible."

The refurbishment is to be completed in two phases with the second phase focussed on replacing the building's ageing furniture.

Mr Jordan said replacing the furniture would be new "study pods", as well as "high-quality chairs and tables" with built-in lighting, privacy dividers, and charging ports.

Tim Barker, chair of the directors of the Social Investment Fund, which has helped fund the refurbishment, said: "The Guille-Allès Library is an important and much-loved Guernsey institution.

"It is good news that the facilities have been developed so that they meet the needs of this generation of Guernsey people of all ages, and enable the library to be used for a wide variety of events."
