Developers have put forward prospective plans to build houses on a former golf club in Esher, Surrey.

If approved, up to 275 homes between two and five storeys high could be built on at the former Moore Place Golf Club on Portsmouth Road.

No concrete plans have been announced, but the developer - Charterhouse Strategic Land and Moore Place Holdings - has submitted a screening request which outlines the potential scheme.

The proposed development would be "in the footprint" of the former club, according to planning documents.

The club closed in 2019 after the owners said it was no longer financially viable to run, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Affordable housing provision is said to be provided "in line with policy requirements", according to the outline planning documents.

Elmbridge Borough Council was told to plan for more affordable housing by the Planning Inspector last year.

There would be "substantial areas of open public space" provided which would "enhance habitats" with "high quality" spaces, new planting and new ponds, according to the documents.

It is not the only course up for potential development: over 200 homes could be built on Hersham Village Golf Club site.

Plans also include a GP surgery or medical centre, a cafe and a play area.
