The Duke of Edinburgh has met with children, volunteers and community groups on a visit to an art gallery and museum in Surrey.

Prince Edward toured Lightbox Gallery & Museum in Woking on Tuesday and was shown exhibitions delving into the town's history.

He was joined by people from the Orpheus Centre, a charity helping young disabled adults gain life skills, of which the he is patron.

Sarah Brown, director of Lightbox Gallery & Museum, said: "We are very grateful to have received this visit.”

Ms Brown said: “The duke is a wonderful advocate for arts and heritage, and our organisation is committed to ensuring that more people can access arts and heritage - and the wide-reaching benefits they bring."

After visiting the gallery, the duke toured Woking’s Story, the town’s local history museum, where displays share the history of the many different communities who, over the centuries, have made Woking their home.

He then heard from local schoolchildren and teachers about the importance of the facility.

More than 500,000 schoolchildren have visited Lightbox Gallery & Museum since it opened in 2007.
