The RNLI said it does not raise funds by door knocking

The RNLI has warned of a bogus charity collector who has conned people into giving money.

The charity said the person, who was reported to be wearing RNLI-branded clothing, had been door knocking and asked for funds in Guisborough.

The lifeboat organisation said it does not raise funds in this way and asked anyone with any information to report it to Cleveland Police.

The force said it received a report of a suspicious incident on Wednesday where a person, falsely claiming to be from the RNLI, had visited houses in Guisborough and asked for donations.
