Arrests over Bonfire Night disorder rise to 61
More people have been arrested over disorder on Bonfire Night, bringing the total arrests across Scotland to 61.
A police investigation was launched into the trouble on 5 November, which saw emergency workers attacked, property damaged and residents "terrified" in incidents largely in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Last week five males - aged 16, 25 and three aged 17 - were arrested over incidents in Calder Road and Captain's Road in Edinburgh.
Police said four other males, aged 15, 16, 19 and 27, were reported to the procurator fiscal for incidents also on Captain's Road.
Police Scotland said that of the 61 reported for crimes on Bonfire Night, 41 were linked to incidents in Edinburgh.
The city was the first in Scotland to implement firework control zones - new powers given to local authorities which limited the use of fireworks.
Parts of Glasgow were due to be covered by a similar ban but it was delayed until next year due to a council error.
Over the course of the evening on 5 November, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received 1,000 emergency calls from across the country.
Both firefighters and police officers were attacked with fireworks, bottles and bricks, though incidents of serious disorder had fallen compared to the previous year, according to police statistics.
Ch Supt David Robertson said: "I will continue to reaffirm my message in the wake of the disorder we experienced on 5 November 2024, that If you were involved, you will be caught. It may take time, but you will not evade justice.
"Enforcement activity like this will continue to take place wherever and whenever we have gathered sufficient evidence.
"The public can continue to support us with our inquiries by coming forward with information, or submitting video or photographic evidence via our Major Incident Public Portal."
