Fire rips through derelict village lodge
Fire crews have worked overnight to put out a fire at a derelict lodge in a Dorset village.
The fire at Cattistock Lodge on Newton Road, Cattistock, broke out at the two-storey stone building on Monday shortly before 22:45 GMT.
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said five crews were sent along with an aerial ladder platform and two water carriers.
The fire service said the fire was out shortly after 02:00 and the cause was under investigation.
The building is also set to be inspected by the fire service and Dorset Council due to concerns over its stability.
The fire service said: "Please remain clear of the area due to the dangerous state of the building."
Neighbour Penny Rogers told the BBC she was alerted of a fire by a friend, who rang to tell her to "look out of your window".
"I looked out and you could see this huge great roaring ball of flames," she said.
Ms Rogers said the house had not been lived in for roughly 10 years.
The lodge has seen a number of planning applications submitted in recent years to turn it into multiple homes, but none have come to fruition.
