A retirement village porter has been crowned a quadrathlon world champion.

Jules Taylor, 63, from Bristol, won the over 60s category long course quadrathlon world championship in Hungary after completing a 2.6km (1.6 miles) swim, 20km (12.4 miles) kayak, 62km bike (38.5 miles) and 21.1km (13 miles) run in six hours and 59 minutes

He took up the sport in 2022, after previously taking part in marathons, Ironman events, and ultra distance kayaking.

"I've always enjoyed sport and it's how I measure myself," he said.

He also won the 2024 middle distance quadrathlon world championship in Lincolnshire.

"I really did enjoy competing in both events and was very proud of my results, particularly in Hungary.

"It had been years since I did a long distance event and combined with the 35C heat, it was very challenging," he said.

Mr Taylor is a porter at Bristol's Westbury Fields Retirement Village, run by St Monica Trust that sponsored him for both events.

Residents there have been "very impressed" by his feat, Roger Hayward, trust director, said.

"I know that some of them enjoy working out with Jules when he is using the onsite gym or running around the cricket pitch in his lunch hour," Mr Hayward added.
