Boy 'just wanted to hurt' stab victim, trial hears

A boy accused of the attempted murder of a 13-year-old girl has told a jury he did not intend to kill her.
The 15-year-old allegedly stabbed the victim with a samurai-style sword while on a camping trip by the A63, near Hessle in East Yorkshire, in November last year.
Giving evidence at Hull Crown Court the defendant said he was given the sword and told "to go and hurt her" by another person in the group who the victim had been arguing with.
Asked by defence barrister David Godfrey about the attack, the defendant responded he "just wanted to hurt" the victim.
The court has heard she was found covered in blood by passing drivers after staggering on to the road.
She had suffered 10 stab wounds, including one to her chest which caused damage to her lung and an abdominal wound which injured her liver.
Mr Godfrey asked the defendant why he stopped the attack.
The boy replied: "Because I felt too bad, I'm a monster."
He added he "went back to the tent and cried."

During cross examination, prosecutor David Lamb KC asked the boy why he had left the victim injured and alone in the wood and had not sought help.
He replied: "I don't know."
Asked by the barrister why he lied to the police about not attacking the girl, he responded: "I knew I had hurt her, I was scared."
The prosecutor asked: "Did you want to kill her?"
He replied: "No".
The defendant, who cannot be named due to his age, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder but has pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possessing a bladed weapon.
The trial continues.
