Jersey increases heat pump match funding

Jersey residents with a fossil fuel heating system can now apply for up to £9,000 match funding towards a heat pump, the government has confirmed.

The grant for heat pumps - which warm buildings by absorbing heat from the air, ground, or water - has been increased from £5,000 to £9,000 in an aim to encourage islanders to switch, officials said.

Those who qualified as low-income could also receive an increased amount of funding for heat pumps of up to £15,000 without the need to match fund, they added.

To accommodate the increase, the value of grants for some other direct heat technologies are being reduced from £5,000 to £4,000.

Environment Minister Deputy Steve Luce said: "To help encourage more islanders to make the switch to heat pumps, I have increased the grant for these systems.

"Although the upfront cost of installing a heat pump can be high, they are very energy efficient, very environmentally-friendly and have low running costs."

Islanders who have already applied for a grant on or after 1 November 2024 would be able to receive the incentive at the new rate, officials said.
