Dedicated choir 'uplifting' for cancer patients

A unique choir is putting a song in the hearts of people with cancer.

Bolton Cancer Voices is open to anyone "on the cancer journey" who wants to "the joyous and uplifting experience" of belonging to a choir, chairwoman Karen Elliott said.

"It has increasingly therapeutic benefits and we would really encourage people to give it a try," she added.

The 33-strong choir, which was founded 12 years ago, is looking to recruit new members.

Ms Elliott said the group was founded because at a time when there was very little support for people undergoing treatment.

She said for some people it was "a chance to forget their illness for a few hours" while for others it was just about being part of a community.

The choir meets every Monday with no auditions required.

Ms Elliott added: "While cancer brings the choir together, it's the love of music that unites members."
