Police have closed down a shop in Leicester following an investigation into the sale of illegal knives.

City Surplus Outdoors in Granby Street has been shut down by Leicestershire Police who have issued the premises with a temporary closure notice.

City centre police commander Insp Ryan Ludlum said it was believed the Army and Navy store was connected to disorder and nuisance in the area.

The shop's owners have been contacted for comment.

A police spokesperson said: "We have served a closure notice on City Surplus Outdoors' on Granby Street in Leicester city centre.

"The city centre and Cultural Quarter beat teams, with support from Trading Standards, have taken this action following an investigation into the selling of illegal knives."

The temporary order bans anyone from entering the premises without police permission until 17:15 GMT on Friday 7 February.

A hearing will take place at Leicester Magistrates' Court to discuss the closure order, which could be extended for up to three months.

The businesses owner has 21 days to appeal against the closure order.
