Speed cameras not working six months on
People living near a stretch of speed cameras on a dangerous road in Lincolnshire have said it is a “joke” they have never been switched on.
Last year, average speed check cameras were fitted on the A631 in Market Rasen as part of £3m road safety funding.
But, after more than six months since their installation, the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership has confirmed the cameras were “not operational”.
The partnership has said they will be live in the “next few weeks”.
John, who lives in North Willingham said he had seen “many accidents over the years” and was happy the cameras had been fitted.
The 84-year-old, who did not want to give his surname, recalled an accident involving a car driving through the village, on the A631, around seven years ago.
He said a vehicle spun out of control and crashed into his lawn, adding that it sounded “like an explosion”.
John believed the introduction of the speed cameras has had a positive effect, but it was a “joke” they do not actually work.
Elizabeth Manterfield, 32, who also lives in North Willingham, said although the cameras do not work, they have slowed traffic down.
She said drivers used to regularly speed past her house, and she had seen collisions on the A631, which runs through the village.
"Reversing off of our drive used to be a hairy thing to do," she said.
A spokesperson from the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership said: "The speed cameras remain in their installation phase and are not currently operational.”
They added: “Power is expected to be connected to the system in the next few weeks, at which point the cameras will become live.”
