A man has been treated in hospital for a gunshot wound to his calf following a shooting in the Kilcooley estate in Bangor, County Down.

Police received a report just before 22:00 GMT on Thursday that the man in his 20s had presented himself to hospital.

Officers believe that he was shot a short time before this.

Det Sgt Bell said that it was a "despicable attack", adding that "those involved in this incident do not represent the interests of the local community, nor do they contribute anything to it".

The officer appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact police.
