Devon and Cornwall Police says a group of men forced their way into an address in St Ives

A man has been arrested following an aggravated burglary in Cornwall.

A group of men forced their way into an address in the Chapel and Gabriel Street area of St Ives at about 06:25 BST on Tuesday.

One man was also believed to have been in possession of a knife and small firearm. The men then fled the property in a car and stole a safe from the address.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a man in his 30s from Penzance was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence, a drug-driving offence, and possession of class B drug with intent to supply. He was released on bail until 11 June "pending further enquiries".

The force said local and firearms officers had attended the scene.

A spokesperson said the occupant of the premises had been traced and was safe and well. A scene guard was in place at the property until 22:00 BST on Tuesday.

"Police inquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing to anyone who may have information to help with the investigation to contact them," they said.
