A man has been arrested after an e-bike hit two people in a pedestrianised area.

Police say officers were called to Goose Gate, in Nottingham city centre, at about 16:00 GMT on Sunday, when the bike rider was found lying in the street.

He was taken to hospital with injuries "not believed to be life-altering or life-threatening", Nottinghamshire Police said.

After recovering a knife from the area and speaking to members of the public, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place, riding an electric bike without due care and attention and while unfit through drugs.

Insp Dan Buckle said: "Electric bikes, as well as electric scooters, can pose a significant risk to other road users, pedestrians and to the riders themselves.

"We have recently targeted areas of the city centre to crack down on illegal use of these devices, seizing bikes and educating riders about the laws surrounding their use."

Electric bikes are legal to use across the country but, under current legislation, must not exceed an output of 250 watts or travel faster than 15.5mph (24.9km/h).
