FedEx plans expansion at two of its UK sites

Delivery company FedEx has announced plans to expand two of its existing sites in the UK.
New logistics hubs are planned near its centres at Marston Gate, Bedfordshire by junction 13 of the M1, and at Atherstone, Warwickshire.
The multinational firm said it was scaling back from its five hubs and consolidating its operations at the two brand new facilities.
The hubs, which are expected to be operational by 2029, will each be able to sort 32,000 items an hour and process international freight.
"We are excited about plans to renew our hub infrastructure in the UK," said Rob Peto, FedEx's vice president of operations.
"This is a substantial commitment into the UK and will mean we're well positioned for future growth with a dynamic, flexible and efficient end-to-end network."
The hubs which will eventually close are at Kingsbury in Warwickshire, Parkhouse in Staffordshire and Dartford, Kent.
The company said that while there were no changes for employees in the short term, the project would eventually affect working locations for some staff.
It added that it was committed to working closely with union and staff representatives to ensure employees were supported.
FedEx is the world's largest company in its sector, shipping to 220 countries and territories.
It has 200 million customers and delivers 17 million packages globally each day.
It has operated in the UK since 1984.
In addition to its road network, the company has operations at three air hubs in this country.
