The sauna has been proposed for Bellfield Park

A large sauna with capacity for at least 20 people has been proposed for an Inverness city centre park.

Community Sauna Highland said if its plans for Bellfield Park were successful it would look at setting up a second site in another community.

Sauna bathing is described as a form of therapy that takes place in a room usually heated by burning wood or electricity.

Community Sauna Highland has proposed building a large sauna, as well as an area where people can have a "cold plunge" and a space where bathers can rest.

The not-for-profit company has started registering interest in its project.

Sauna bathing is popular in parts of northern Europe including Finland, Sweden and Germany.

Bellfield Park, on Inverness' Riverside area, already has tennis courts and a Highland Council-maintained children's play area.
