There will be additional police patrols in Maryport and Workington

Funding to help police tackle anti-social behaviour hotspots in west Cumbria has been welcomed by the force.

The £27,000 awarded to Cumbria's Police Fire and Crime Commissioner, will allow additional patrols to be introduced in Maryport and Workington.

It will also assist with preventative measures, aimed at reducing serious violence.

These include a new Pubwatch app, drug testing surface wipes, and SmartWater - the forensic marking spray.

There will be a year's free subscription to businesses for the new Pubwatch app.

This will enable members to communicate with each other about suspicious behaviour and those engaging in violent behaviour or ongoing incidents.

David Allen said he was "delighted" to receive the funding, which was part of ongoing Operation Enhance, to tackle anti-social behaviour.

He added: "[It] will enable our officers to tackle anti-social behaviour and serious violence more effectively than ever before by having more officers out on the streets in the areas where we know anti-social behaviour has been a real problem."
