A fire at a derelict building is being treated as suspicious but its cause is not yet known, according to the fire service.

Ten fire engines initially attended the blaze shortly before 01:00 GMT on Saturday in East Hill, Ashford, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said.

On Saturday evening, the fire service said operations at the site had finished.

A spokesperson said: "There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known but is being treated as suspicious."

Kent Police previously said the force was called shortly after 23:15 on Friday to a fire at the building and that Mace Lane was closed while fire crews extinguished the blaze.

The road has since reopened and police said enquiries were under way into the cause of the fire.
