A woman who was arrested on suspicion of murdering a man who was found dead in his home on New Year's Day has been released on bail.

The body of William McNicholl, who was 63 and known as Billy, was discovered at the property in Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich.

A post-mortem examination found the primary cause of death was a single stab wound, but he had also suffered head injuries.

Suffolk Police said a woman in her 50s was arrested on Saturday. She has been bailed, to return to police on 9 April.

The force had previously said the last sighting of Mr McNicholl was on 23 December, but he had been active on social media on Christmas Day.

Mr McNicholl lived on his own.
