A lorry fire on the M40 has caused significant delays for motorists.

The motorway remains closed southbound between Junction 16 at Hockley Heath and Junction 15 at Warwick due to the fire, National Highways said.

Traffic which was initially caught up in the closure is being released past the scene in lane 3.

Emergency services including Warwickshire Fire and Rescue are on scene, but West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was not called.

The outer parts of the vehicle are burnt away, leaving only parts of the structure, the wheels, and the goods the lorry was carrying. Some of them have toppled onto the round and many of them are visibly burnt. A car's wing mirror is visible in the bottom right corner of the photo.@abitje1

National Highways Traffic Officers are also in attendance to assist with traffic management.

One social media user said on X that they had been stuck in traffic for two hours.
