A mother will receive £3,750 in compensation after failings in the way a council dealt with her son's special needs education.

Isle of Wight Council admitted faults, including issuing a final plan for the boy's education in January 2023 but only sending the mother details when she asked in mid-March 2023.

The Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) told the authority to pay £3,400 as a "symbolic payment" for two terms of missed education and another £350 for the mother's frustration.

A council spokesperson said it "supported" the LGO's findings and recommendations identified.

They said it was "working to ensure that special educational needs are prioritised, and that children and young people are provided with the resources they need to thrive".
