Fire crews fought a large blaze involving multiple caravans near the Essex-Hertfordshire border.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said it was initially called to reports of a shed on fire in Epping Road, Roydon, at about 21:17 GMT on Friday. On arrival, however, a crew from Harlow discovered a much larger incident than expected.

Two caravans and several fence panels were also engulfed in flames and the fire spread to additional caravans.

Due to the size of the fire, additional support was requested from Old Harlow fire station and Brentwood fire station in Essex and Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. It was completely extinguished within two hours and no-one was injured.

The fire service said a water relay had to be set up due to a lack of working hydrants in the area and all of the caravans involved were either destroyed or damaged by the fire.

Harlow fire station watch manager Brendan Cardy said: "Crews worked tirelessly in challenging circumstances to bring the fire under control."

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and a fire investigation will take place.
