A man has denied murdering a war veteran in Stoke-on-Trent.

Lee Woodward, who served in Iraq, died in hospital in April 2023, ten months after he suffered brain damage in a street attack in Hanley in June 2022.

Gregory Twigg pleaded not guilty to killing the 39-year-old in a hearing at Stafford Crown Court earlier.

The 31-year-old, from Blurton in Stoke-on-Trent, was remanded in custody until his next appearance at a pre-trial review hearing in March.

A provisional trial date has been set for 7 July.
