A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a stabbing in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said it was called to Alum Rock Road just before 20:45 GMT on Friday.

The force described his condition in hospital as "critical but stable".

Det Ch Insp Jim Mahon said it had been "a really serious attack" and that there were extra officers in the area to offer reassurance to the public.

The force has been carrying out inquiries in the area and it has cordoned off a section of nearby Morris Park, where it believes the teenager was attacked.

Police have asked to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who has mobile phone, CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage.
