A crane worker who lifted a man to safety from a burning high-rise building in Reading has been thanked by the fire service.

The large fire broke out at the Station Hill development site in the Berkshire town on Thursday morning.

Crane operator Glen Edwards used a cage to rescue the workman, who was surrounded by flames and thick smoke.

A large sinkhole that opened up in a car park near a primary school has suffered a further collapse.

The sinkhole appeared in East Park Farm Car Cark in the village of Charvil, Berkshire, on Monday.

Charvil Parish Council said it was working to keep the area safe but confirmed more ground had given way.

The sister of a head teacher who took her own life following an Ofsted inspection has called comments by its chief "grossly insensitive".

Ruth Perry died in January after being told Caversham Primary School in Berkshire was being downgraded from outstanding to inadequate.

Ofsted chief inspector Amanda Spielman said the case had been used to "discredit" the schools watchdog.

Zoo animals have been enjoying an unusual donation from firefighters.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has gifted several used rubber hoses to Berkshire College of Agriculture (BCA) Zoo in Maidenhead.

Monkeys, lemurs and various other creatures have been using the former life-saving equipment as toys, hammocks and feeders.

Fred Again, Lana Del Rey and Catfish and the Bottlemen have been announced as headliners of next year's Reading and Leeds festivals.

Blink-182 and Liam Gallagher will also be rocking the main stages.

The festival will take place between 21-25 August.
