Plans have been submitted to build 53 new retirement apartments and a 77-bed care home.

Developers want to build a new housing complex for the elderly on derelict land off Orphanage Road in Erdington, Birmingham.

If approved, the new site would consist of a mix of one or two-bed apartments alongside a three-storey care home.

A planning decision on the proposals, set to provide up to 75 new jobs, is expected to be confirmed on Thursday.

Planning documents from applicants McCarthy Stone and Liberty Care Developments said the development would make a "positive impact" on the character of the area and would have "no adverse effect" on the setting of nearby heritage assets.

It would also "provide adequate levels of amenity and would not result in any harm to highway safety," the document said.

The care home, would provide communal facilities, including 10 lounge and dining rooms, as well as a a cinema and activity room and a hair and beauty room.

Up to 48 parking spaces are also set to be included on the site.

The project, if approved, would take no longer than three years to complete.
