Family creating hats to help people with hair loss
A woman from Gloucestershire who lost her hair after chemotherapy is helping others to make hats using their own hair.
Joy Roodenburg-Vermaat, from Stroud, was diagnosed with "aggressive" breast cancer in 2023.
Before her hair began falling out, she experimented with different wigs, but did not feel comfortable wearing them.
Her children came up with the idea to "save" her hair by cutting it off and attaching it to a lining to wear underneath a hat. It was that afternoon that Hats of Joy was created.
Now, the family are sharing tutorials and DIY kits, so other people going through similar difficult situations can craft their own hats.
