Ikea is advertising jobs at a new city centre store, but an opening date has not yet been announced.

An advert for a kitchen sales specialist role in Brighton, with a starting salary of £28,000, is listed on the furniture giant's job site with a May start date.

A spokesperson said advertised start dates did not necessarily indicate when the store would open its doors, which would be announced soon.

They said: "We're excited to open our Ikea Brighton city centre store this year and we are currently recruiting co-workers locally."

A unit facility management specialist role is also being advertised, with a start date to be discussed at interview.

The Ingka Group, which owns Ikea, purchased Churchill Square Shopping Centre near Western Road for £145m in 2023 and the new store will open on the former Debenhams site.

In 2021 the company axed plans for a store in Lancing, West Sussex, blaming changing customer habits.

Previously, the retailer opened smaller city centre store in Hammersmith, London and is planning a second in the capital.
