About 60 firefighters and a dozen fire engines have been tackling a large blaze at a building in Birmingham.

West Midlands Fire Service said it was called to property, belonging to an office furniture company, on Tyburn Road in Erdington at about 16:55 BST.

There were no reports of casualties or anyone inside the building, the service added.

West Midlands Police said it was helping with the operation, adding that several roads in the area - close to the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange - were closed.

A dozen fire engines remained at the scene to tackle the blaze as of 20:00 BST

The fire service said local road closures were still in place as of 21:30 BST, with Tyburn Road to Salford Circus shut in both directions, although the blaze had been brought under control.

People living on or near Tyburn Road were advised earlier in the evening to keep their doors and windows closed.

A spokesperson said police were monitoring smoke blowing over the motorway.

While traffic was moving very slowly in both directions, the motorway remained open, West Midlands Roads - part of Transport for West Midlands - posted on X
