A 70-year-old man accused of causing death by careless driving is set to face trial next year.

Mohammad Shabir, of Highfield Road, Doncaster, pleaded not guilty to the charge at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.

Miroslaw Szczypek was found on College Road, near Doncaster's main police station, in the early hours of the morning on 15 August 2023 and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Yorkshire Police issued an appeal the following day and said it was believed he had been hit by a vehicle which failed to stop.

Mr Shabir is accused of hitting Mr Szczypek in a black 2010 Mercedes while driving without due care and attention.

A trial date has been fixed for 30 March 2026.
