Man dies in crash with road closed for hours

A man has been killed in a crash on a major road in Cumbria, police have said.

He was travelling in a red Volkswagen Golf which crashed shortly after midnight on the A66 Stainburn bypass near Workington.

The man, who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Cumbria Police added.

The road has now reopened in both directions between the A595 and the A596 near Bridgefoot after being closed for about 13 hours.

Witness have been asked to contact Cumbria Police.
