Dementia nurse Nadia Tobierre said she wanted people in Kettering to know what services were available

A dementia nurse has organised an awareness day to showcase services available in her area.

About 1,440 people are thought to be living with dementia in Kettering, Northamptonshire, according to Alzheimer's Research UK.

Dementia nurse Nadia Tobierre hoped the event, at the Corn Market Hall on Tuesday from 10:00 to 15:00 BST, would let people know how they could access help.

She said: "There are lots of ways people need support when they're diagnosed. The agencies invited will help to signpost people to the right place at the right time."

About 944,000 people in the UK are believed to be living with dementia.

The disease causes a progressive decline in memory and other cognitive abilities, including thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning.

Ms Tobierre, who works at Kettering General Hospital, said: "We want the public and staff to be aware of what's available and how we can move forward to improve dementia care."

The event will involve charities such as Age UK, the Alzheimer's Society and Northamptonshire Carers.

Wellingborough-based choir Dementia Sings Out will also be there, alongside the police and fire services and a solicitor.
