Fire crews have tackled a blaze at a former factory building.

Firefighters were called shortly after 06:00 BST to reports of a blaze near the junction of Pyenest Street and Howard Place, in the Shelton area of Stoke-on-Trent.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said there were no reports of people being injured or evacuated.

The service said it initially sent four crews to tackle the blaze, with crews leaving the scene shortly after 09:00 BST and revisiting later in the morning to make checks.

A section of Stoke Road, which includes Howard Place, was closed this morning.

The former factory building backs onto a canal and is behind a cafe called Coffee & Chai.

The other side of Pyenest Street contains an area of vacant land where the city council has proposed to build 141 homes.
