Volunteers equipped with litter pickers, sponges and paint brushes are to take part in a town's community spring cleaning event as part of a national environmental campaign.

The Great Kettering Spring Clean event will be held in the town centre and is expected to see more than 150 volunteers participate in cleaning up the High Street and surrounding areas.

It is part of the Great British Spring Clean Campaign, which was set up by the charity Keep Britain Tidy to encourage people to improve the environment.

The community will focus on planting flowers, removing graffiti and cleaning bus stops and pavements with plans to install new street art to "brighten up the town".

The four-hour clean-up will be followed by a small street party and will include lunch and music for the community.

The Great Kettering Spring Clean will begin at the town centre clock in Kettering at 10:00 GMT and will finish at 14:00 GMT.
