Roundabout crossings to aid cyclists and walkers
Work to build two new crossings at a busy roundabout junction in Lichfield will "significantly improve pedestrian safety", a councillor has said.
The scheme for the Bowling Green roundabout is one of two road improvement projects being funded by developers Persimmon Homes, added Mark Deaville, Staffordshire's cabinet member for strategic highways.
Work on the crossings to aid pedestrians and cyclists will start on Monday.
A pedestrian crossing will be installed close to Friary Road, and a pedestrian/cyclist crossing will be installed near the junction approach under the six-week scheme.
The team will then move on to Cappers Lane at the roundabout junction with Europa Way and Austin Cote Lane, where new non-signalled crossing points will be installed.
That scheme will run from mid-March to be completed by 1 May.
Disruption warning
Deaville said temporary traffic management would be in place throughout the scheme starting on Monday and will include lane closures and some overnight closures for surfacing.
He said: "This developer-funded scheme will significantly improve pedestrian safety on the Bowling Green roundabout, with two new crossings installed.
"While work takes place, there will be some disruption due to necessary traffic management, so we'd like to thank people in advance for their patience.
"As soon as this scheme is completed, the team will move on to Cappers Lane, where improvements will be made to the crossing points."
