Islanders reminded to renew dog licences

Dog owners in Jersey have been reminded to renew their dog licences for 2025.

All dogs aged six months or more must be licensed each year under the Dogs (Jersey) Law 1961. Licences cost £10 per dog and must be renewed by 31 January.

An online service was launched in 2024 to help provide a "streamlined option" to apply and pay for licences

Chairman of the Comité des Connétables, Mike Jackson, said in 2024, the majority of licences were bought online, but paper applications were still accepted.

He said: "The new site was very well received last year with 82% of dog licences purchased online.

"Paper applications continue to be accepted and should be returned to your parish hall."

Mr Jackson also reminded dog owners that when on a highway or public place, dogs are required by law to wear a collar with the owner's contact details.

He said: "It is not sufficient to have only a microchip or identity number.

"This helps ensure that a lost or stray dog can be quickly reunited with its owner reducing the distress to both dog and owner."
