Two nurses have saved the life of a couple who were suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Danni Parkin and Jess Bratton work in Scunthorpe providing medical care to people in their homes.

They received a call from one of their patients complaining she was "feeling weak and dizzy", Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust said.

The pair went round to the house and discovered a gas leak.

"When we arrived, I could smell gas, and I found myself struggling to breathe and my eyes and nose were stinging," Ms Parkin said.

"We evacuated the house, called the emergency gas number, opened the windows and doors and shut off the gas."

She added: "When the gas engineer came, he said it was the highest concentration of carbon monoxide he had seen in his career - and that was after we had had the doors and windows open."

The couple were taken to hospital where they made a complete recovery.

Both nurses were also treated for the effects of the gas.

The patient, named Anne, said: "I really can't thank them enough, they genuinely saved all our lives."

"Who knows what would have happened if they hadn't have come to see me."
