A man has been jailed for "horrific sexual offences" against two young victims.

Craig Short, 53, of Woodland Mews in Paignton, was jailed for 12 years with a further six years to be served on extended licence after he admitted a number of non-recent sexual offences committed against children.

Investigating officer DC Rachael Delaney said Short had been brought to justice thanks to the "strength and courage" of the victims.

Short was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.

'Never too late'

Police said Short had previously pleaded guilty to indecency with a child, four charges of causing a child to watch a sexual act, six counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and four sexual assaults against a child.

The court heard his offending involved one boy and one girl who were unknown to one another.

The offences took place when they were aged between six and 15.

Police said that, when interviewed, Short denied any wrongdoing and said the allegations against him were "made up".

However, he later admitted his guilt.

DC Delaney added: "Despite having committed horrific sexual offences against two young victims Craig Short continued to go about his business for years.

"This case demonstrates that it is never too late to come forward and report sexual abuse and that we will continue to thoroughly investigate all matters reported to us."
