Hotel run by four generations of family to close
A hotel and bar in East Yorkshire has said it will be closing with "great sadness" after nearly 90 years.
The Expanse Hotel and Marine Bar, in North Marine Drive, Bridlington, has been run by four generations of the same family after being built by Edmond Cooper Briggs in 1937.
The family blamed "difficult trading conditions" for the decision.
They said they would continue to operate apartments and residential flats.
The owners thanked their "loyal staff", who had "made the Expanse a happy place", and customers who "made many happy memories".
"We would like to express our gratitude to each and every one of you who have supported us over the years," they said.
"We now ask for your understanding and patience as we work to support our team."
Mr Briggs, a builder from Leeds, decided to build the hotel after spending family holidays in Bridlington. When completed, it had 37 bedrooms, five with private bathrooms – a feature said to be a rarity on the east coast at the time.
