Residents are being warned about road closures and diversions while a bridge is being repaired.

Lincolnshire County Council said Stamford's town bridge showed signs of water seepage and its membrane needed to be replaced.

Work will begin on Monday until 1 September and take place between 07:30 and 16:00 BST.

Diversions will affect St Mary's Hill, Castle Street, Castle Dyke and Albert Bridge. Cattlemarket and Wharf Road car parks will still be accessible but parking in front of Lord Burghley's Hospital will be suspended.

Councillor Michael Cheyne said: "We have discovered that the bridge shows signs of water seepage which is the result of a failure of the existing waterproofing membrane. To deal with this, we will have to remove the existing road surface and footpaths.

"The remedial work is essential for the continuing use of what is one of Stamford's most famous landmarks and a critical part of the local traffic network."

A full list of diversions for drivers and pedestrians is available on the council website.
