A man has been left with serious injuries after a head-on crash closed a road for several hours in both directions.

Police appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage after the collision on the A10 in Cambridgeshire involving a black Hyundai Ioniq and a black Mercedes EQA at about 07:15 GMT on Tuesday.

Part of the road was closed between Oak Lane, in Littleport, and the B1411 Downham Road in Ely.

Sgt Duncan Hall said: "We would urge anyone to come forward who may have left the scene prior to police arrival or has dashcam footage of the collision or vehicles involved just prior."

The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old man from Ely, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 28-year-old woman from Littleport, and her one-year-old child, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in King's Lynn in Norfolk, with minor injuries.

A fire service spokesperson said two crews had been sent to the scene and specialist equipment was used to help release a casualty.
