Memorial service for funeral home inquiry victims

A memorial service was held at Hull Minster for families affected by the investigation into a funeral directors, one year since it began.
In March 2024, Humberside Police removed 35 bodies and a quantity of ashes from Legacy Independent Funeral Directors on Hessle Road, Hull, following a report of "concern for care of the deceased". Two people remain on bail.
The remembrance event on Thursday was an invitation-only service for families directly affected by the investigation.
The Bishop of Hull, the Right Reverend Dr Eleanor Sanderson, said the service was "very much the structure of a funeral".

The service included prayer stations for families to leave candles, flowers and notes for their loved ones.
Bishop Sanderson said: "We wanted to provide an opportunity for families to come together.
"My biggest hope is that they have more peace.
"I think it's been really traumatic for them not to be able to let their loved ones be at peace because they've not been able to find that peace themselves.
Humberside Police deputy chief constable Dave Marshall said: "Exactly one year ago, the lives of hundreds of people across our communities changed forever.
"Whilst thoughts from all officers and staff at Humberside Police and our deepest sympathies remain with them today, we cannot begin to imagine the emotional devastation and anguish many have suffered and continue to do so."

The Right Reverend Dr Eleanor Sanderson, Bishop of Hull said she hoped this anniversary service would bring peace.
And some leaving told me that, while inside the grand, historic venue, they felt just that.
But there's no denying that life has changed undeniably for hundreds of families in this community. They feel a deep betrayal, a mistrust.
They are desperate for justice. As one told me: "I hope I don't see another anniversary without it."
