A road in Leicester city centre has closed after bricks fell from a Grade II-listed building on to the pavement.

Police cordoned off an area of Belvoir Street, at the junction with Granby Street, at 10:35 GMT on Monday.

Fire crews inspected the loose brick work using an aerial ladder and said they were currently waiting for a heritage manager to attend.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has asked motorists to find alternative routes until the area is "once again deemed safe".
